What a load of $#!t!
June 25, 2008 at 5:32 pm | In Challenges, Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, continuous glucose monitor, diabetes, insurance | 2 CommentsHmmmmm…. so after 6 months of fighting, and FINALLY winning “approval” for my continuous glucose monitor from GreatWest health insurance, they are refusing to pay! What the #3!!?!
I have no idea except to call a lawyer about this one. How on earth can they approve the device, agree it is medically necessary, but yet turn around and say ‘no, we don’t feel like paying for it’. How can they get away with this?!
Just had to rant. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you know of anyone who has been through something similar can you send them my way? I am at a complete loss what to do. Was that fight that stressed me out, made me sick, just for the amusement of some darned medical director at the insurance company?!
I’m going to go get my hair done… hopefully that will make me feel a little better. arg.

Help Aspen’s Fight
I will have an out of pocket expense of $6,700 this year to purchase an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor, that is after insurance covers their portion. I really need help with these expenses.
My goal is to raise $6,700, currently I am at $2,285.

Aspen,
I am Dean Taylor’s wife; I know that he has been in contact with you and we donated to your pump fund. I would suggest contacting the CF Foundation legal department, which is run by Beth Sulfian, an attorney with CF. She can give you some advice/assistance in this area. Her email address is bethsulfian@aol.com. You can get the legal department’s phone number off the http://www.cff.org website.

Hi Aspen. I found you through mybloglog. I guess you have visited my site at one time. My blog perhaps? Or at least my mybloglog profile. Wow. I have diabetes, but nothing like your problem. I hope you raise the money you need. My husband went through a lot of hardships. He had two cancers and a stem cell (bone marrow) transplant. He had a couple of years of complications but is doing downright well now! People were generous to him online for what he needed, mostly for things for the hospital more than money. But they were very very generous. I will pray that you get the money you need for pump. God bless, Krissy
